Opportunities for Intense Runoff management around the rail network to promote the creation of wetlands with ecological potential
RFF's managing director, SNCF, is responsible for the design and management of hydraulic structures in the area to protect the railway platform, limit traffic disruptions and ensure the safety of people. In order to limit the impacts of stormwater runoff from these different hydraulic structures, restitution to the natural environment can be buffered by basins or retention and / or infiltration valleys.
- Experience shows that some developed areas can evolve and tend naturally towards ecosystems of humid zones (ZH), recognized as being reservoirs of biodiversity.
- Another observation is that some portions of lines are more exposed to the intense runoff hazard than others. The reason is that runoff runoff does not routinely flow through the river system. The fear, from a long-term planning perspective, is that climate change towards more intense rainfall increases the frequency of problems observed.
It is proposed to explore the feasibility of hydraulic development solutions that can create or stimulate the biodiversity of different types of wetlands:
(1) by analyzing the compatibility between the initial hydraulic function and the contribution of biodiversity, based on a selection of existing structures managed by the operator within its influence.
(2) using a geomatic modeling dedicated to the detection of zones favorable to wetlands that will be validated by reconnaissance campaigns in the field. The model will treat a flat area in right of way as well as a small watershed off right-of-way crossed by a LGV track.
